Actions and Progress
Sustainable by Design
We have pioneered scenic and open‑match wallpaper designs to significantly reduce waste. Today, this approach forms the foundation of how we design all new wallcoverings. It is now one of our clearest examples of design thinking reducing environmental impact without compromising beauty or craft.
Forestry Stewardship Council Commitment
All our paper products are sourced through FSC‑certified suppliers, verified by the Soil Association Certification Ltd. This ensures that the fibres in our wallpapers originate from responsibly managed forests that support biodiversity, protect habitats, and contribute to community livelihoods.
Recycled Ocean Plastic Ink Trays
We have expanded the use of ink trays produced from recycled ocean plastics. This small but meaningful shift has eliminated thousands of single‑use plastic trays from our supply chain since 2021.
Closing the Loop
All wallpaper offcuts are re‑baled and pulped to form new materials within other industries. Since 2021, this initiative has prevented significant volumes of paper waste from entering landfill and has helped support circular material flows.
Environmentally Responsible Inks
We exclusively use non‑toxic, water‑based inks that are exceptionally low in VOCs. They are free from cadmium, chromium, mercury, lead and formaldehyde. Their performance has improved each year, offering richer depth and colour fastness with a reduced environmental footprint.
UV‑Set Wallcoverings
Our finishing process now uses a blend of ambient air and low‑energy UV curing. This has led to dramatically reduced energy usage compared with traditional drying methods — an area of genuine progress since 2020.
Print to Order
Our print‑to‑order approach has matured into a highly efficient system, reducing overproduction to virtually zero. Nearly every metre of material we produce now has a purpose before it is made.
Made to Last
We continue to design with longevity in mind. Our wallpapers and fabrics are created to endure beyond seasonal trends and remain part of customers’ lives for years — and often generations.
Water Conservation
By printing with pigment inks, we reduce water consumption by between 30–40 and 70–80 litres per metre compared with traditional reactive dye processes. Over time, this has accumulated into a substantial reduction in water usage across the studio’s production.
Better Cotton Platform Partnerships
Our fabric suppliers remain active partners of the Better Cotton Platform, supporting farmers across 21 countries to implement sustainable, biodiversity‑enhancing agricultural practices. This partnership helps us ensure that the cotton in our products reflects the highest global standards of environmental care and social responsibility.
Children’s Scrap Project
Since 2021 we have donated thousands of metres of misprinted or surplus material to the Children’s Scrap Project. These materials support schools and youth programmes across the UK, nurturing creativity while diverting waste from the supply chain.
Wrapping and Packing Improvements
Our packaging remains fully recyclable, and in many cases biodegradable. Paper‑based branded tape, recyclable void fill, and low‑impact shipping processes all support our goal of eliminating unnecessary waste.
